Downsizing. No one wants to talk about it. No one wants to have to do it. It’s not exactly a fun topic.
In the era of COVID though, it’s more important than ever that we think carefully about downsizing decisions and then handle the implementation of those decisions in the right way. So, this week, we’re talking about downsizing.
We talk about:
• Survivor’s Syndrome: The effect that significant downsizing has on the remaining team
• The impacts of Survivor’s Syndrome
• Steps you can take to minimize the negative effects of Survivor’s Syndrome, so that your team has its best chance of recovering and moving forward to keep from any more downsizing in the future!
In this episode, we talked about a book we read with the Jetpack Leadership Cohort called Then We Came to the End, by Joshus Ferris. It’s a story about a company where layoffs keep happening, and the team is caught in a downward spiral. It’s an interesting look at what happens when team morale starts to take a hit, and leads to some interesting conversations about what leadership can do to help steady the ship.
